Lykos Pharmacy was opened in 1960 by Nicholas C. Lykos, the first independent retail pharmacy in the neighborhood. Known to the community as “Doc,” Nick was dedicated to providing high-quality customer service. After graduating from the “A” course at Baltimore Polytechnic High School and University of Maryland School of Pharmacy with honors, he served in the military.
Nick was a forerunner in the field. Lykos Pharmacy was the first retail pharmacy in the state of Maryland to provide computerized prescription service. He was actively involved with the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy as a clinical professor and was instrumental in creating the PharmD program, which eventually propelled the school to the top 10 in the country. He served two terms as Director of the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce, and was named Small Business Man of the Year. Nick’s wife Dorothy, a former x-ray technician, who originally hailed from Philadelphia, worked alongside with him for years. She, like her husband, Nick, were active members of the community.
To commemorate Nick’s memory, his family established the Nicholas C. Lykos Scholarship in Community Pharmacy at University of Maryland.

Meet Our Pharmacists
Charles "Chuck" Muendlein
RPh
Charles “Chuck” Muendlein began working at Lykos Pharmacy in 1983 as a pharmacy student intern. A graduate of Calvert Hall High School, Loyola University and University of Maryland School of Pharmacy Class of 1985, Chuck began his career as a hospital staff pharmacist with Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC). He shortly came on board afterwards when Doc offered him a full-time position and has happily been here ever since. Chuck has now served multiple generations of families. Chuck understands the importance of direct customer communication and enjoys helping patients with their pharmacy needs.
Brian Timberlake
PharmD
Dr. Brian Timberlake, PharmD began working at Lykos Pharmacy in 2005 as a clerk, delivery driver and then as a pharmacy technician after graduating from Archbishop Curley High School. During his time here, he was inspired to become a pharmacist. He attended Towson University for undergraduate studies in chemistry before graduating from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in 2012. During his academic career at Maryland, Brian studied in geriatric medicine, diabetes management and palliative care. Although he has worked in many different pharmacy backgrounds, Brian enjoys working for an independent retail pharmacy that places its primary focus on patient care.
